Dezeen Showroom: Milan studio Skrivo took visual cues from skateboarding infrastructure when designing the curved-edged Ramp seating for furniture brand MDD.
Ramp is available as a series of seating styles, developed by Skrivo to be combined in large configurations in open-plan areas such as receptions – according to MDD, “it is the answer to the functional needs of communal spaces in public spaces, service facilities and offices”.
Skrivo said the design references skateboarding ramps, which gives the collection a playful energy and distinguishable aesthetic.
Each piece can be used as an independent item or combined to form bigger seating arrangements with a matching table unit.
“My goal is always to create movement, lightness and the sense of play, to make the static furniture feel alive,” said Skrivo founder Stefan Krivokapic.
“I am satisfied that Ramp has this organic, youthful quality, as its name refers to skateboarding ramps and their distinctive shape.”
Ramp comprises benches, sofas, armchairs and pouffes unified by their wooden frames and curved edges and backrests. The frames are available in natural or black oak and with upholstery in a variety of textiles.
