The work of legendary English photographer David Bailey will get a major exhibition in Spain this summer at Inditex chairperson Marta Ortega Perezâs MOP Foundation. âDavid Baileyâs Changing Fashion,â which opens June 28 in A Coruña, where Zara owner Inditex is headquartered, will feature more than 140 works from the photographerâs archive, including several pieces on public view for the first time.
The show will spotlight Baileyâs raw, kinetic style and role in shaping fashion and celebrity culture in the 1960s and 1970s, when London was a global capital of cool, with early portraits of Jean Shrimpton and selections from his seminal âBox of Pin-Upsâ portfolio, which featured the likes of Mick Jagger and Rudolf Nureyev as well as East End gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray.
âFrom the early days, [Bailey] consistently backed his own vision, breaking the rules of fashion photography and inventing new ones at will,â said Ortega Pérez.
âDavid Baileyâs Changing Fashionâ will be the fifth major exhibition hosted by the MOP Foundation, following shows examining Peter Lindbergh, Steven Meisel, Helmut Newton and Irving Penn. Alongside Baileyâs photographs, the exhibition will include studio ephemera, a specially commissioned film and a printed publication inspired by Ritz, the fashion and gossip magazine Bailey co-founded in 1976.
