For a style blogger (or a sneakerhead), it’s a memorable Succession moment: Season one, episode eight. Jeremy Strong’s Kendall Roy is en route to an investor pitch meeting, for which he has acquired a brand-new pair of Lanvin sneakers in hopes of impressing a pair of arty startup founders. “Oh, fuck yeah,” he says, holding up the way-too-box-fresh kicks in the backseat of his chauffeured car while a Run the Jewels song plays. Suffice to say, the founders remain unmoved.
While Strong has steadily worked to shed Kendall’s impact on his psyche, it seems the role has left a lasting impression on the actor’s personal wardrobe. Not an unlikely outcome, given how Strong himself often provided input on his former character’s style. For example, Strong’s fondness for the luxury eyewear brand Jacques Marie Mage meant that Kendall Roy ended up wearing the shades on the show; the synchronicity looped back again this fall when, more than a year after the Succession finale aired, the actor partnered up with the brand to release his own capsule collection.
This week, for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Strong wore a tonal brown ensemble, as he is wont to do. He paired a taupe, shearling-trimmed corduroy flight jacket with a mousy brown turtleneck, espresso-brown pants, and a russet-toned bucket hat. On his wrist was a watch by Richard Mille (who also happens to be Kendall’s favorite luxury watchmaker), and on his feet were a pair of green Lanvin running sneakers.
As evidenced by his 2023 Met Gala ensemble and that recent Jacques Marie Mage collab, earthy brown and alien green have become a signature Jeremy Strong color combo. To paraphrase the Wicked adage: Brown goes good with green.
