No watch brand is better at leveraging its roster of handsome, perfectly coiffed celebrity ambassadors than Omega. Up to this point, the watchmaker has mostly stuck to trotting out Daniel Craig to tease its upcoming releases: The former 007 has helped whet collectors’ appetites for pieces like the white-dial Speedmaster and a special variant of the Seamaster Diver 300M.
At Monday night’s Met Gala, Omega went back to the well with the ever-dapper Colman Domingo. And unlike Craig, who wore his never-before-seen timepieces somewhat stealthily, Domingo debuted a new watch on the highest-voltage red carpet of the year. The piece certainly seems deserving of such a stage. Squinting at closeups of the watch, it appears to be a yellow-gold Speedmaster with a black dial and white subdials. At first glance, I thought there might be diamonds on the bezel, but I feel fairly certain now it was just a trick of the light.

One important note of distinction: Earlier this year, Domingo wore another very special $160,000 version of the Speedmaster to the Oscars. The diamond-set, “Canopus Gold” Speedy—made from a mixture that includes platinum, gold, palladium, and rhodium—was a made-to-order piece. While elusive, it’s a different beast than the actor’s Met Gala ticker, which, like Craig’s preview pieces before it, appears to be set for an eventual wider release.
The Swiss watchmaker wasn’t able to clarify much in an official statement (emphasis mine): “Concerning the OMEGA timepiece worn by Colman Domingo at the Met Gala 2025, this is an unreleased Speedmaster model that has not been announced publicly. The brand will not be revealing any details about the new watch until a later date.” Sounds like we’ll be seeing this watch in boutiques at some point in the future.
